The programme on land and in the water

From 6 to 10 August 2025, the Kiellinie – from the Geomar Meadow to the Blücher Bridge – became the stage for the Ocean Race Europe. Visitors to the Ocean Live Park were treated to a colourful programme of sailing and sustainability: workshops, lectures, information stands, hands-on activities and concerts – all free of charge and in the open air.

Children discovered the mini play area, while the Ocean Dome showed fascinating 360° films – from adventure to marine research.

Numerous NGOs presented themselves in the marine conservation camp and invited visitors to get involved. Culinary delights were also provided.

The sailing camp also opened its doors as usual during the Ocean Race Europe. With open camp for everyone, no advance booking required and at the regular prices.

In addition: SUP taster sessions – presented by ABK. Try out stand-up paddleboarding with ease with the taster offer at the sailing camp. Whether you're trying it out for the first time or just want to get a taste of it, the SUP offer invites you to enjoy relaxing moments on the water.

The Rune Sauna has been open since 7 August 2025!

Enjoy a good sweat close to nature and the urban environment right on the Kiellinie. After heating up in the sauna, you can cool off at the bathing jetty in the fjord. Clothing is mandatory in the Rune Sauna.

The Bio-Mobil brings organic farming to life and makes it tangible – and was a guest in Kiel as part of The Ocean Race Europe.

The Bio-Mobil is a mobile information service provided by Bioland, Germany's largest organic farming association. During the summer months, it tours numerous cities throughout the country to get people excited about organic farming and raise awareness of its importance. During its stop at the starting port of Kiel during The Ocean Race Europe, visitors were treated to exciting cooking shows and exhibitions by regional organic suppliers.

The stage at Ocean Live Park provided musical highlights and a varied programme.

Right next to Reventlouwiese, the Kiellinie became an atmospheric open-air location every day, with concerts, exciting information, live broadcasts of the regatta and interactive activities on the theme of the sea. Admission was free, and the maritime atmosphere was included!

Experience IMOCAs up close: at the start harbour event in Kiel: At the start of The Ocean Race Europe 2025, seven international teams moored their high-tech IMOCA yachts in Kiel. The spectacular foiling boats were moored in the marina at the Blücherbrücke – clearly visible from the Kiellinie, unless they were flying across the inner and outer fjords.

Experience the future of the sea

The marine conservation camp focused on protecting our oceans. Numerous events, talks and hands-on activities invited visitors to learn more about the state and future of the seas.

Interactive stations such as the Meromat, the marine conservation city game and the Future Box Seas made the topic tangible. Exciting for all ages! A place to think, try things out and take action – right on the Kiellinie.

Fun, games and creativity for little explorers!

Even the youngest visitors were well catered for at The Ocean Race Europe: the mini play area – inspired by the popular play area at Kiel Week – invited them to join in, play and paint. A colourful programme that made children's eyes light up!

Immerse yourself and marvel: the Ocean Dome presented marine worlds in 360°

In the Ocean Dome – presented by Casino Schleswig-Holstein – visitors experienced impressive films about the sea in fascinating 360° optics. Whether imaginative children's films such as The Legend of the Magic Reef, exciting documentaries from marine research or the impressive concert format Sounds of the Ocean with film and live performance – there was something for everyone here.

Working together to protect the oceans

Because water knows no boundaries, the federal government, states and local authorities work closely together on marine conservation: the federal government provides the legal framework and international cooperation, while the coastal states implement protective measures in the North Sea and Baltic Sea. Local authorities are involved at the grassroots level – for example, in education, climate protection and projects to combat marine litter.

Questions about The Ocean Race Europe or Kiel? The crew at the Welcome Centre Kieler Förde will be on hand to assist you at the information pavilion during the start port event – whether you need help finding your way around, planning your day or general information.

Sartorikai on the western shore of the Kiel Fjord is more than just a street with a quay - it bears the name of the famous shipowner August Anton Heinrich Sartori and thus tells a piece of Kiel's harbour history. The striking office building of the Sartori & Berger shipping company is also located here, which characterises the harbour and is a reminder of the long tradition of shipping in the city.

Race feeling you can touch – the Ocean Race Cockpit

What is it like to stand on board an IMOCA racing yacht? In the Ocean Race Cockpit, this experience became tangible: a detailed replica of the helm station conveyed first-hand how cramped, technical and impressive life on board is.

From 8 to 10 August, the Ölpier in Mönkeberg hosted an atmospheric beach lounge with event TV right on the waterfront. During the day, guests enjoyed direct views of the inner fjord, while in the evening there was live music, film screenings in deckchairs, culinary delights and a DJ.

A special highlight:

The electric boat shuttle took its passengers directly from the Mönkeberg oil pier across the fjord to Ocean Live Park – comfortably, sustainably and with a fresh breeze included.
