To mark the 50th anniversary of Kiel's modern envelope, the festival traditionally began with a wake-up call from Kiel's former mayor Asmus Bremer and his wife. The city centre was transformed into a journey through time, from the early Middle Ages to the glorious age of pirates and the modern era. Along the way, there were authentic stalls, historical figures, traditional handicrafts and a wide range of food and drink.

A varied programme with live music, storytellers and various performances provided entertainment. This year also saw the return of the popular crafts tent. On Sunday, Kiel's shops opened from 13:00 to 18:00 under the motto "I feel Kiel" and invited visitors to go on an extensive Sunday shopping tour.

The Kieler Umschlag took place not only in the city centre, but also in Holtenauer Straße. A varied programme on Ansgarkirche square delighted young and old alike. This included a creative workshop organised by the Kunstquartier, where clocks and compasses could be made, glitter tattoos and a historical games trail. Highlights included a fairy tale reading at 2 pm in the Ansgarkirche hall and a spectacular fire show "Die zwei Skalden", presented by Weltentor at 5.30 pm.
