Kiel's open-air tradition

Since 2012, Theater Kiel has alternated between the summer theatre and the summer opera and fascinates the numerous visitors with the atmospheric open-air performances.

Every year, the programme alternates between summer theatre on the former MFG 5 site and the summer opera on Rathausplatz. For the premiere, there are numerous locations in Kiel and the surrounding area that offer a live broadcast and attract thousands of visitors. The ensemble also captivates the audience on the other performance days with the atmospheric, rousing and magnificent acting, music and singing performances and sets particularly beautiful summer highlights at the impressive locations.

The programme is published in the spring of each year, with performances usually taking place in July and August.

What our visitors can look forward to

Every summer, the premiere of the theatre is broadcast live at unique locations to allow everyone to experience culture free of charge and in the open air. Last year, we also offered seating at all locations - on recommendation, some visitors also brought a picnic blanket or their own chairs to make themselves comfortable. A wide range of catering options catered for the physical well-being of visitors, who could also bring their own food.
