Every June, Kiel is transformed into the sailing capital of the world: Kieler Woche takes over the entire city as a huge open-air festival featuring live music, a maritime atmosphere and a lively, exuberant mood. Whilst top-class sailing takes centre stage in Schilksee, around three million visitors experience a unique celebration of sport, culture and entertainment.

Kieler Woche is much more than just a sailing event: it’s a unique atmosphere that takes the whole of Kiel by storm. To help you keep track of the huge variety of activities, stages and regattas on offer, we’ve summarised the key information for you here.
The most important areas
Whether it’s top-class sporting performances, a vibrant cultural scene or a leisurely stroll – Kieler Woche takes in the whole city. Here you’ll find the central hotspots and key areas at a glance – places you really shouldn’t miss.
Experience sailing up close
. Venue: Schilksee Olympic Centre
In Schilksee, you’re right in the thick of the exciting regattas! With live music on the beach stage and a range of food and drink on offer, this is where you’ll find sailing fans and stars in particular.
Balloon Sail – so close to the sky!
Venue: Nordmark sports ground
At the Willer Balloon Sail, lots of colourful hot-air balloons float in the sky – a truly unique sight! Fireworks, live music and culinary highlights round off the evenings at the Night-Glow.
Colourful fun for the little ones
Venue: Krusenkoppel
Children’s hearts will be racing along the play route: hands-on activities involving painting and crafts will transform the Krusenkoppel into a total work of art. Concerts, bouncy castles and much more are sure to provide plenty of fun!
International Feast
Venue: Town Hall Square
Spanish paellas, Finnish moose burgers or Pakistani pakoras – the international market has a wealth of authentic international culinary delights in store for you. The colourful live entertainment programme on the Town Hall stage rounds off the experience.
Woderkant Festival – inspiring!
Venue: Kiellinie
Young and creative – that’s the Woderkant Festival. Local start-ups offer a range of creative and sporting workshops here. There’s also plenty to discover on the culinary front! In the evenings, you can dance and party to some laid-back live music.
MUDDI Market – the Mini Festival
Venue: Lorentzendamm

Social and environmental sustainability – that’s what the MUDDI Market stands for. It hosts a mini-festival featuring music, food, workshops, talks and exhibitions.
Fair & Beach Club Location: Hörn

At the Hörn, as well as the large Kieler Woche funfair with its many rides, you’ll also find the Beach Club, where you can relax. There’s live music, acrobatics and a range of food and drink on offer to round it all off.

At the Ocean Funpark, you can try out trendy sports such as flyboarding, stand-up paddleboarding and jetboarding. It’s also the venue for the OCEAN Jump World Championships – a spectacle well worth watching!

Experience Kieler Woche up close from the water! Whether it’s on a relaxing boat trip on the fjord, actively sailing at the sailing camp, or browsing through our photo gallery featuring the best moments.
From the fireworks cruise to the windjammer parade
Boat trips
Sailing, fireworks and the famous windjammer parade are among the highlights of the Kiel Week programme. Come aboard and enjoy the view of the regattas and the Kiellinie from the water.
The Kieler Woche boat tours won’t be available for booking again until next year. However, there are still plenty of other boat tours waiting for you:
Introductory sailing at the sailing camp
Sailing for everyone!
At the “Open Sailing Camp”, guests are very welcome to join us for short taster trips! During these one-hour mini-cruises, you’ll get a taste of sailing and experience the hustle and bustle of Kiel Week from the water.
A bronze swimming certificate is required to sail with us.

Tour of the Town Hall Tower
Experience Kieler Woche from above
Kiel’s best view awaits at a height of 67 metres. The Town Hall Tower offers an unobstructed panoramic view of the entire city, the harbour and the fjord. A lift takes visitors comfortably up to the viewing platform. Book your ticket for the Town Hall Tower tour and experience Kiel from a bird’s-eye view.
By the way: You can book a trip up the town hall tower even outside Kieler Woche: during the season from April to November and also at the Christmas market.
How to get to Kieler Woche
Kiel Week is easily accessible by bus, bicycle, car or on foot.
Bus
The bus is the quickest way to get to Kieler Woche! Thanks to frequent services and special timetables on many routes, you’ve got flexibility round the clock. Just check the timetable and hop on without a care.
Car
Parking can be a real challenge during Kiel Week. Here you can find out all about the smart parking guidance system and how to find a parking space using the Peuka app.
Bicycle
There are plenty of cycle racks, and the SprottenFlotte bike-sharing scheme is also available. The first 30 minutes are free of charge.
