Experience pure indulgence at ‘Cheese Meets Wine’ – at the boat harbour in Kiel city centre! Regional cheese producers from the Schleswig-Holstein Cheese Route join forces with selected winemakers from northern and southern Germany, inviting you to sample their wares and linger a while. Live music every day creates a relaxed atmosphere. Whether sheep’s, cow’s or goat’s cheese – paired with fine wines, it creates a taste experience that will linger in your memory for a long time to come.
Together with the quality mark and GUTES VOM HOF.SH from the Chamber of Agriculture, Kiel-Marketing presents this popular culinary event against the maritime backdrop of Kiel’s boat harbour.
The culinary selection of cheeses is complemented by regional and quality-assured meat, sausages and baked goods.

What a feast for the senses! Once again this year, Kiel was transformed into a veritable paradise for foodies at ‘Cheese Meets Wine’. From handmade cheese specialities from regional producers to fine wines from local vintners – the variety on the plates and in the glasses was simply fantastic.

Interview with Käpt'n Cheese
Markus Bornholdt, better known as ‘Käpt’n Cheese’, is a cheese expert from Kiel and a passionate ambassador for fine food and drink. With his ‘Käsekajüte’, he organises entertaining cheese and wine tastings, combining expert knowledge with North German charm.
We met Markus Bornholdt, aka Käpt’n Cheese, before the cheese and wine tasting and bombarded him with questions. In the interview, he talks about his life as a cheese sommelier, his favourite varieties and why Kiel is more to him than just his home port.
Schleswig-Holstein Cheese Route
The Schleswig-Holstein Cheese Route has succeeded in firmly linking the region with high-quality cheese bearing the SH quality mark. Over 100 different types of cheese can be found in the association’s extensive range, which includes more than 30 member cheese dairies. They produce their cheese using conventional methods or to the highest organic standards! Their craftsmanship is also highly regarded by international standards.

In 2025, the Chamber of Agriculture’s“Geprüfte Qualität Schleswig-Holstein” quality mark celebrated its 60th anniversary. Since 1965, the quality mark has stood for high-quality, regionally produced food that meets the highest standards of quality and taste. The range of award-winning products is diverse, spanning everything from dairy products to meat and sausage products, right through to fish. All foodstuffs bearing the quality mark undergo rigorous testing by independent laboratories several times a year.
