Heikendorfer Strand

Heikendorf, a gem

Beautiful beaches, fresh fish and beachside spots with the best views of the fjord: Heikendorf is a wonderful place to stroll, relax on the beach and enjoy the sunset in the evening. If you’d like to spend a day at the beach here, there are several options to choose from, and a seaside lido invites you to take a dip in the cool water.

Möltenort Strand

Möltenort Main Beach

It’s just a short walk to the main beach. Here, you can stroll, go for a swim or have a natter. Children can climb and run about on the cool play ship or use the beach volleyball court right on the beach. When you start to feel peckish, you’ll find a range of eateries side by side – from snacks such as chips and fish and chips to fine regional cuisine – plus, of course, ice cream and refreshing drinks. Whatever you choose, all these spots have one thing in common: an unbeatably beautiful view of the sea and, in the evening, a stunning sunset.

Beach chair for sleeping

The sun is setting, but would you like to linger on the beach a little longer? For anyone wishing to spend the night there, Heikendorf has a very special treat in store: the sleeping beach chair. Falling asleep cosily as a couple on the beach – isn’t that romantic? Enjoying the sunset from your bed and waking up to the sound of the sea is an unforgettable experience. From May to October, you can book the beach chair bed at the Welcome Centre Kieler Förde, at the Heikendorf Tourist Information Office or online here. Then it’s just a case of tucking the bed linen under your arm and moving in!

Schlafstrandkorb Heikendorf

That’s by no means all...

Even aside from swimming and culinary delights, the former artists’ colony has plenty to offer. For example, fascinating, inspiring art in a fairytale-like house, surrounded by a blooming garden with wonderful spots to relax. This idyll awaits you at the Heikendorf Artists’ Museum. The former property of the painter Heinrich Blunck (1891–1963) is still adorned with some of the trees and shrubs from his time. The Art Kiosk is also a very special experience. Right on Möltenort’s main beach, various local artists exhibit their works during the summer months – available to take away or to order. Heikendorf is also a wonderful place for a stroll and a spot of shopping: from shops selling everyday essentials to Scandinavian fashion and cute little knick-knack shops, there’s something for everyone here. Many people from Kiel make a special trip here to visit, for example, the Blaues Wunder Eco Concept Store, the lovingly curated Kaufhaus der Kunst, or the fashion boutique Vestitum.
