The maritime highlight of Kiel Week is the impressive windjammer sailing parade. Around 130 fascinating traditional and steam ships, as well as numerous private boats, make the Kiel Fjord shine. The many white sails against a maritime backdrop offer an impressive spectacle. It's a fantastic photo opportunity, especially in good weather. Just sit down, marvel and have your camera ready.

Naval cutter regattas

The naval cutter regattas are one of the oldest traditions of Kiel Week and are still a real spectacle. In the middle of the inner fjord, over a thousand sailors have been competing in five classes on historic and modern naval cutters for over 130 years. From the keel line, you have the best view of the action, right up close, without binoculars. Particularly atmospheric: the grand finale of the cutter race, when civilian and military crews compete using only muscle power.

View torch floats

Fackelschwimmer in der Kieler Förde

The big closing fireworks display on the Kiellinie is definitely one of the highlights of Kiel Week - and at first glance, it's not entirely clear what it has to do with a maritime experience. The torch floats (literally) bring light into the darkness! Every year, divers with torches enter the water at the Reventlou Bridge to herald in the Kiwo closing spectacle.
